With the economic recession still in effect, the return of high gas prices, and the recent BP spill on the Gulf Coast, GoTriangle and its family of services is joining with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the Fifth Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 17.
Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2010 National Dump the Pump Day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money, instead of driving a car. Started in June 2006 when gas prices were $3 per gallon, this national day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money. According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two person household can save an average of more than $9,000 annually by downsizing to one car.
If you’re going The first 100 commuters, who share their “Dump the Pump” stories on the GoTriangle Facebook page , will receive a free Regional Day Pass, which is good for riding on DATA, CAT, and Triangle Transit buses, excluding express buses.
Also on June 17th in honor of Dump the Pump, Triangle Transit thanking their riders at various locations with Restaurant.com gift cards. So be on the look out for Triangle Transit staff at your local transit station, bus stop and park-and-ride.
