Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy thinks the New York subway is one of the best features of the city, but that the beeping of the current card swipe system has room for improvement. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has already planned to update the turnstyles, so Murphy believes now is his chance to turn a “brutal” sound into transit harmony. Click to see – and hear it – in action (Washington Post).

Move over, science labs: public transportation may now be the best place to for social scientists to conduct experiments. In a recent study, Harvard researchers used train stations to measure human interactions regarding race and culture attitudes. The results may surprise you (The Boston Globe).
