The transit plan approved by both Durham and Orange counties in 2011 and 2012 includes more frequent bus service and the Durham-Orange Light Rail Project, a 17.7-mile, 18-station light rail between UNC Hospitals and North Carolina Central University.

“We are not building light rail for today, we are building light rail for what we think our city and our region is going to be 10 to 20 years from now,” says Durham Mayor Bill Bell.

With connections to three universities (Duke, UNC and NCCU), three major medical facilities and entertainment centers, the light rail will add to the economy, provide easy access to employment and enhance the vibrant region that the Triangle is today.
